Cardiopulmonary Testing

Diagnosis of heart disease is the key to proper treatment and prevention of a heart attack. At Medical Center Hospital, the Cardiopulmonary Testing Department takes an active role in performing the various diagnostic tests offered in this department. These tests include electrocardiograms (EKG’s), echocardiograms (Ultrasound pictures of the heart), peripheral vascular studies (Evaluating blood flow through vessels), electroencephalograms (EEG’s, checking brain wave patterns, and electrical activity), pulmonary function (PFT’s breathing tests that check lung function) and arterial blood gas sampling (ABG’s checking blood-oxygen levels). Most of these procedures are non-invasive tests to evaluate your heart or brain function, oxygen levels in your blood, lung function and determine your risk for stroke.

The staff of professionals includes three echo sonographers with 33 years of combined experience. Registered Respiratory therapists perform EKG’s and other heart monitoring tests. Registered Respiratory therapists also perform ABG’s and pulmonary function tests (PFT’s). Routine studies are performed during the week and our staff is on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to perform urgent tests when time is of the essence.
